Acupuncture can support you on your fertility journey.
Many people use acupuncture to improve their overall physical and emotional health. If you would like to try acupuncture in combination with your IVF, IUI, or egg donation programs at Sims IVF, it is important that you tell your doctor.
Acupuncture can help you by:
• reducing stress, increasing quality of life while you’re undertaking treatment,
• stimulating blood flow to the uterus, influencing the menstrual cycle and ovulation.
Acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer has been found to show significant benefit for women who have increased stress levels or who have had multiple previous IVF cycles, or where there was a low baseline pregnancy rate (Smith et al., 2019). Embryo Transfer acupuncture is ideally done on same day (or within 24 hours) and without involving long or stressful travel.
- Studies and Research
In 2015, research by Shen et al. and by Hullender Rubin et al. reported that acupuncture administered during the IVF cycle stimulation phase and/or during implantation phase in addition to treatment at the time of transfer showed significant improvement in pregnancy rates.
In 2019, Smith et al. found acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer significantly beneficial for women who have increased stress levels or who have had multiple previous IVF cycles. This goes in line with what Magarelli et al. showed in 2009, noting that acupuncture was beneficial in the regulation of cortisol and prolactin during the medication phase of the IVF treatment.
Speak to your doctor at Sims IVF who will be able to advise you about your options regarding acupuncture treatments during your fertility journey.
