Helga Behan

Helga studied as a humanistic counsellor and qualified from Trinity College in 2004. She has been practising as a client-centred and non-judgemental counsellor for more than 20 years, bringing significant training, expertise and compassion to the people she works with. In addition to providing general counselling, Helga found her passion for reproduction and is, for 20 years a specialist in reproductive health and actively advocating for reproductive and sexual health for all.  This involves, for instance, working with those affected by fertility issues (IUI/IVF/Donor, fertility and surrogacy) as well as miscarriage and pregnancy loss.

With this passion, she has been spreading fertility awareness through radio interviews and webinars. She believes in empowering her clients on their journey.

During this period, Helga also pursued her studies in play therapy, qualifying in 2007. She works with children and adults in a creative and safe environment, where the children’s or adults’ needs are met. Through her work in play therapy and fertility counselling, it has highlighted the challenges of trauma in life and how it affects people in different ways. As a result, Helga pursued her studies and qualified in Trauma Informed Care therapy. She has also trained in mindfulness, which she uses frequently in her practice. She also works with her clients through grounding and visualisation techniques. Helga believes that the body can hold onto trauma even if the mind forgets.  

Helga is also a Creative Supervisor in Play Therapy, where is works with students and qualified creative therapists.  She is also training and practicing as a Sandplay Therapist, which enhances her work with children and adults at a deeper level. 

She is a founding member of IFCA (Irish Fertility Counsellors Association) established in 2008 and is co-founder and director of IPTCA (Irish Play Therapy Community Association)
