Beginning your fertility journey can bring up a mix of emotions – hope, nerves, questions, and sometimes a little overwhelming. At Sims IVF, we want you to know that you’re not alone. Whether you’re just starting to think about parenthood or have been trying for some time, or looking to move clinic, we’re here to walk beside you every step of the way.
The journey to parenthood is different for everyone - however if you are thinking of starting or not sure where to start, the below is a good overview of a typical start for many patients.
Step 1: Talk to Us
If you’re feeling unsure about what to do first, simply reach out to the team and contact us. Our warm and knowledgeable patient coordinator team is always here to listen, answer your questions, and guide you in the right direction.

Step 2: Book a Fertility Assessment
A fertility assessment is a helpful starting point for most. It gives both you and our team a clearer picture of your fertility health, even if you’re not ready to begin treatment just yet. Knowledge is power, and this information can inform your decisions.
Your assessment typically includes:
An AMH blood test
An ultrasound scan
A semen analysis, if you have a male partner.
These tests give us the information we need to support you in the best way possible.
Step 3: Meet with a Fertility Specialist
Next, you’ll have a private consultation with one of our experienced fertility doctors. This is your time to talk through your medical history, lifestyle, any concerns you may have, and review your results together.
Your fertility specialist will listen carefully and take the time to explain your options, tailored to your individual needs. This appointment can be in-person or online – whichever feels most comfortable for you.
Already have test results from your GP or another clinic? We’re happy to take a look at those too as they may be relevant to your treatment.
Step 4: Ready When You Are
When you feel ready to take the next step, your consultant will work with you to create a personalised treatment plan. Whether that’s IVF, IUI, or another option, we’ll make sure you have everything you need before you start– a clear timeline, cost breakdown, and all the information to make confident decisions.
If more information is needed, your consultant may recommend additional investigations like advanced hormone testing or ultrasound scans to ensure we have a full picture of your fertility health. These are designed to give you the best possible chance of success.
